Remember, in 2007, when retailer Whole Foods Market said no to plastic bags and introduced reusable grocery bags for the first time in the United States? Meet Deb Singer, the change agent behind that landmark move.While at WFM, Deb pioneered the Better Bag program that introduced customers to truly green reusable bags, leveraging breakthrough technology that created bags from recycled plastic bottles. This major success led Whole Foods to ban plastic shopping bags in all their stores and inspired retail chains nationwide to rethink their bag menus.
Deb went on to found Singer Sustainability to focus on ending the use of single-use plastic bags in as many retail ecosystems as possible. Since that time, the company’s mission has expanded to encompass the broader zero waste space. Her team has worked with retail chains, agricultural organizations, farmer’s markets, and small and large businesses to help their brands grow, while making smart, sustainable choices.
