Perhaps the legislation US Congress passed this year has aided in the proliferation of unsafe bags?

Interesting that legislation was passed this year  authorizing a special discounted duty rate on NWPP bags to O% while better and greener fabrics made from recycled materials are subject to a 20% duty rate. This of course drives prices down on the very fabric that Sen. Charles Schumer (D-New York) claims contains unacceptable levels of lead. This is complicated issue.

Federal Probe called for into Lead In Shopping Bags

The Dept. of Toxic Substances TiPPA (Toxics in Packaging Prevention Act) was passed in 2007 addressing heavy metals in one use packaging. California adopted this legislation in 2007. It’s about time more States are looking at this!

Publix, Wegmans, Winn Dixie all pulling reusable bags due to lead levels. Is this necessary?

I say no. It’s not that hard folks. Find a good manufacturer in China (yes, they do exist)  who is willing to do independent  testing and better yet test in the USA! And..retails moving up to $1/50 per bag?
